Andrew Pellish, a teacher from Furnace Brook Middle School in Marshfield, MA, taught a class comparing American & Malawian Geography to his students in the US and a class of orphans of HIV/AIDS from the Malimbe School in Malawi.
Mr. Pellish displayed a PowerPoint presentation on a screen in his US classroom, broadcasting it via a web cam to Malawian students. He used maps and pictures to show the differences in geography, topography, climate, and vegetation of these two areas of the world. Following his instruction, students from both sides were able to ask questions, quiz each other and discuss the subject matter.
Feedback from both sides decreed that this was a great learning experience. Canterio International intends to expand this type of educational exercise in the future, allowing teachers and volunteers in America to teach and help children in Africa without leaving their classrooms.
Malawian teachers also benefited from this exchange and we would like to expand this program to include teacher to teacher instructional videos and classes to increase their skills through online instruction.
